The effect of Mentha piperita oil in improving serotonin level, physiological factors, antioxidants and fertility markers in male rabbits on opioid oxycodone withdrawal

Introduction and Aim: Medicinal plants have shown to be effective in treatment of different stages addiction with lower side effects, including reducing the severity withdrawal symptoms that occur when an opioid-dependent patient stops using opioids. The current study aimed evaluate role Mentha piperita oil on alleviating oxycodone withdrawal, elucidate mechanisms by which it does so. Materials Methods: Twenty-five healthy male rabbits divided into 5 groups (G1-G5) consisting each. were as follows: G1-Control Group: G2-Oxycodone: G3-Oxycodone withdrawal: G4-Oxycodone + M. piperita: G5-Oxycodone +M. piperita. Blood was drawn from each animal serum obtained analyzed for physiological (cortisol, serotonin, dopamine, CRP T, LH levels), antioxidant parameters (LDH, SOD, GSH MDA) sperm activity. Results: This found statistically significant changes most variables. G2 had higher serotonin dopamine levels, body weight, cortisol levels than control group G1. Sperm activity, efficacy, testosterone, luteinizing hormone, superoxide dismutase, glutathione, malondialdehyde did not alter across generations (G2 G1). Group 3 showed negatively affected LH, GSH, activity compared Groups 1 2. Without therapy, G3 fast considerably cortisol, CRP, LDH, MDA Serotonin level decreased G1 G2.
